Unfair Online Practices Have To End!

A topic I wish to address is regarding the numerous photographers in Ottawa who are using competitor’s domain or studio names in their website’s keywords or blogs in order to generate more traffic to their website. My domain and company names (Ottawa Portrait, ottawaportrait.com and also ottawaportraits.com) are being used by several photographers in Ottawa to benefit their website’s rankings. This of course is very fraudulent and I consulted legal advice on this matter and have decided to take action in this regard.  This practice is not fair play and I will not be as tolerant in the future. I am aware of the fact the name “Portrait” is a standard industry term widely used to define a product and that “Ottawa” is the city where these photographers in question are operating from. However, using these two keywords (Ottawa Portrait) as quotes or the two together and then separated by commas or used as a title is evidence enough that they are targeting my studio and domain name. I am the rightful owner of this domain and company name.  I strongly encourage photographers to be more vigilant in this regard, whether you are using someone’s domain or company name to benefit  yourself in search engine rankings or if you are a victim of this unfair practice yourself. If you are also a victim and someone is using your company or domain name  to their advantage, take actions! You have every legal right to do so.
